At 2L it will always be about the attitude and it will always be about the journey...

One of our very first creative efforts dates all the way back to the summer of 1990, when The 2L Custom Hauler Bed was born. With over 5500 produced, it’s true-to-profile-fit and stylized look, The 2L Custom Hauler Bed would have to be one of the most recognizable symbols in all of American Western sports culture. From our personal counterparts and cohorts in the National Cutting Horse Association, to PRCA cowboys and cowgirls who travel 1000s of miles nationwide, all-breed horse show enthusiasts and recreational trail riders alike, The 2L Custom Hauler Bed has became a main staple in the fabric of the American equine industry. We have hauled Kentucky Derby winners to their 2-minute date with destiny and countless World Champions in every equine discipline and western sport imaginable. But, our custom-hand built truck body is also a go-to tool for motorsports teams, classic car collectors, boating and water-sport aficionados, as well as commercial users. Movie studios, actors, celebrities, sports stars, and major recording artists have all owned and used our products over the years.
Each hauler bed fits the specific style, body, and cab lines of Chevy, Dodge, Ford, and GMC crew cab duallys. Across the American truck brands they share fit and finish and are constructed on the same baseline. The steel for our beds is laser and water-jet cut insuring our fit, finish, and duplicity. The beds are all jig-set and hand wire-welded in our facility. Once welded out and ground, they are all sandblasted and have an epoxy barrier primer coating applied to the entire underside. The beds then spend a considerable amount of time being “body-worked” and made ready to paint. This process is all done by hand and the final stage is called “hand-wet-sanding”, a technique that is a lost art to so much of our automotive world today. We feel like “wet-sanding” is essential to attaining our glass-like finish, promoting adhesion of our finish, and creating paint longevity.
The beds are then painted in a pressurized booth using a base-coat/clear-coat process that is used by every top-tier custom paint shop. Many of the factory OEMs are now using a tri-coat process, adding a pearl coat to the base color, before clearing. Our shop is outstanding at matching and duplicating these colors and we follow the 3-step process. Our paint mixing lab, supplier selection, and quality of our chemicals used is second to none. The steps are labor-intensive and the boys that create our beds are extremely talented in their respective positions. Richard Newberry, a Decatur, Texas native that handles all final stage paint, pearl, and clear-coat finish and manages the production output of the entire company, has been with 2L for over thirty years. Our finished product is never “perfect” but for a creation that is born from raw steel, its as close as we can control.
The doors and moving parts of our side storage boxes all use a combination of stainless and aluminum to eliminate opportunity for rust. The floors of the beds are all sprayed with a black bed-liner protectant. Step trim and replace-able fenders are standard on each bed and give a more finished look. All of our lighting is LED, wiring harnesses are created by hand and use junction boxes and all connections are heat-shrunk under and open flame to help create as weather-proof seal as possible.
Installation of our beds happens over a B&W or factory-installed gooseneck hitch and we can adjust and accommodate for 5th wheel hitch and hitch combination options also. All of our beds utilize this “frame-mounted hitch” approach versus a ball that is tied to the webbing of the bed frame itself. This offers you the safest and strongest towing experience, back by the engineering of B&W or the truck manufacturer themselves.
All our beds are priced individually according to truck brand and factory options that the truck comes with. We utilize your cameras, your reverse sensors, and your level of factory wiring. There are several options with respect to extra paint work and trim options. They are all priced with exchange regarding the factory dually bed, the factory rear bumper, and the factory receiver hitch. Our hauler beds also work with the air bag systems we offer and the custom auxiliary tanks we install. We also do one of a kind custom builds on larger trucks and semis. All options are priced separately.
At the end of the day, our priorities for The 2L Custom Hauler Bed follows the same philosophy as all our other conversion efforts. Cab occupant safety and the health of the horse comes first, stylizing and longevity comes second. We do not look at material cost, speed of production, or an easier way when we factor our business model. Over seventy percent of our yearly business is from repeat clientele and that fact stands for itself.
At 2L Custom Trucks, we don’t just build trucks — we build legacies. Every custom job tells a story of power, and personality.
